It is Wednesday night, which means only two more days until the weekend begins. For those looking for an event the whole family can enjoy that is free, come to the Rocket City Weather Fest this Saturday at the student union at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The hours of the festival are from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M. and is sponsored by the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Atmospheric Science Department.

There will be different types of exhibits, speakers, and activities related to the weather for all ages. This year's keynote speaker is United States Air Force Hurricane Hunter Major Christopher Dyke. For those who are new to the Huntsville area, the event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the types of weather the Tennessee Valley experiences, especially as the region heads into the spring tornado season. I encourage people to stop by the National Weather Service booth to get an idea of how severe weather watches and warnings are issued.

Ever since I was a little boy, I have been fascinated by weather. If I was better with calculus and physics, I might have been a meteorologist. I hope to be at this event.
