Want to help those in north Alabama with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism lead independent, successful lives? Then consider volunteering with Launch Aspergers. Our organization’s biggest need involves having a new president to run the organization as we are currently in transition. Other needs include reaching out to service providers for potential scholarship recipients, contacting first responders in order to meet our goal of hosting training classes for our Police, Fire and EMS and helping organize fundraisers. Even if you cannot donate a couple of hours a week of your time, Launch Aspergers also needs volunteers to help out on the day of our events.
Anyone with a background with Aspergers and High Functioning Autism, and especially anyone who has experience running an organization, is encouraged to apply. Board meetings are held the 3rd Saturday of every month in the morning so that the rest of your weekend is free. If interested, e-mail a short bio to Larry Deaton at firstname.lastname@example.org and a time will be set up to meet other board members during a future meeting to see if you are a good fit.
Being on the board has allowed me the opportunity to improve my confidence in the area of social and communication skills. For example, my ability to write netted our organization many in-kind donations for our fundraisers from businesses not only locally but across the Southeast, including tickets to Disney World and a certificate for an ocean front suite at a 4 diamond resort. Going back to when the organization was Asperger Connection, I gave presentations on Asperger Syndrome to the Civitans Club and the Optimists Club in Huntsville. I would hate for this organization to fold due to a lack of help.
Make your own memories with Launch Aspergers by volunteering today. Together, let’s give those in north Alabama with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism the same opportunities to succeed like I received by becoming a board member of this wonderful organization.
